Kai's Woodland Elf Hat~ 2013

 Kai is 7 months old now and it was time for a new hat!

The pattern is my creation, inspired by numerous hats I have made over the past few years...

It has a ribbed band with increases on the diagonal bias.

I added a ribbed neck band and a button closure. If it is not needed, the band can be taken around the back of the hat and buttoned to keep it out of the way.

Made from Miss Babs Yowza in Jive Talkin'.

The peak is exaggerated, stuffed with wool roving and topped off with a knit acorn!

The acorn is from the book 

“75 Birds, Butterflies & little beasts to knit and crochet” by Lesley Stanfield.

David's Smokin' Hot Flame Hat~ 2013

My second colorwork project~

The hat pattern is a modification of the Thorpe Hat (Ravelry Link) 

by Kirsten Kapur of Through the Loops.

I modified the pattern math so it worked with a worsted weight gauge yarn and to accomodate the colorwork.

The design is inspired by Flame On by Jessy Henderson (Ravelry Link)

and the flame pattern is inspired by Socks in Flames by Hanna Valkila (Ravelry Link).

Made from Miss Babs Yowza in Marigold and Starling.

  Perfect hat for a cool dude.

Mateo's Infant Hat & Bootie Set~ 2012

Mateo's Mamma (Erin) knit a sweater for him and he needed a hat and booties to go with it.

I think this is the sweetest baby hat and love the vintage look...

Hat pattern is the Top Down Bonnet by Adrian Bizilla of Hello Yarn. (Ravelry Link)

LOVE this pattern.

Yarn is Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca DK.

Size 5 needle. 

His booties are simple, classic booties from the Pom-Pom Booties pattern in Vintage Knits for Modern Babies by Hadley Fierlinger. (Ravelry Link)

Size 4 needles.

Pattern is adorable, but beware of editing errors in the directions.

MOD... I made the cuff in a K1P1 rib and made it longer so it can be folded down.  

The ties are a crochet chain instead of a twist and I omitted the poms.

 Here Teo is modeling the sweater his mamma, Erin, knit for him before he was born.

Kai's Elfish Gnome Hat~ 2012

Pattern is based on Gnomey Hat by Adian Bizilia. 

I changed the gauge of the pattern to fit my yarn and  changed the point of the hat.

Fits a 17 inch head with a bti of room to grow...

Made from a two ply handspun from SpunMonkey.

Gabriel's Monster Hat~ 2012

Pattern is Alsace Le Monstre Hat by Marnie MacLean. (Ravelry Link)

   

Made from  Miss Babs Yowza in Moss & Starling, Patons Classic Wool Dk Superwash in Pumpkin and a natural cream colonial wool from my stash.

Gauge on a size 4 needle was 5.75 st/in and8.5 rows/in.

Gabriel is two years old so I made the child size from the pattern.

I chose to make the mouth area different, with a snaggle-toothed fang. I also decided to knit the eye (pattern showed a crochet version).

Chicken approved... (this chicken is a diva and cannot stay out of photos)

Perfect hat for an adorable little monster!

Bodhin's Thorpe Hat Remix~ 2012

Pattern is Thorpe (Ravelry Link) by Kirsten Kapur of Through the Loops.

I modified the pattern math so it worked with a worsted weight gauge yarn and fit a toddler/small child.

Made from Miss Babs Yowza in Out of Hand.

 Bodhi is not a fan of ties on his hat... to make them more fun, I added a FROG!

Which was a huge hit.

Ties are braided crochet chains.

I made crocheted worms for the top...

...and a felt patch with a "B" on it.

B for "Bodhi" and for "Back" (so he knows which side is the back).

Free Elf Hat Pattern~!

This is an oldie from years ago, but I thought it would be great to feature again!

Pattern is available to download from my website HERE.

Will fit child to adult head approx. 20-21 inches.

Pattern is written for both chunky weight or worsted weight yarn (held double). 

Includes felting instructions for the optional ears... Ears are knit as a rectangle, felted, then cut out (template included)~

Gauge: is the same for both Chunky (single strand) or Worsted (hold 2 strands together) yarn, they use different sized needles (see materials list). 1 inch= 3 ½ stitches and 6 rows

Materials: 

~ Hat yarn in desired colors- Chunky minimum of 120 total yards, worsted minimum of 200 total yards.

~ Yarn sized needle

~ Yarn for ears- one skein of a skin-toned feltable wool, bulky weight.

~ Size 9 circular needles, 16 in. length (double worsted size 10 ½)

~ Size 9 double point needles (dpn) (double worsted size 10 ½)

~ Size 17 needles (for ears)
